Spring greetings!
The comic workshop and the annual meeting of the Deaf Artists’ Guild are now behind us. Thank you Viparo for letting us to use your nice space!
Suvi Sipronen (comic artist, interpreter) led a comic workshop for guild members where she talked about making a zine, or small magazine. As a pre-workshop assignment, members were asked to make observations every day for a week and write them down. Suvi taught us how to fold a single sheet of A4 paper into a multi-page zine.
Once the papers were successfully folded into zines, we drew our observations from the pre-assignment as a comic strip. If you forgot to do the pre-assignment, Suvi had a punishment ready…! Those who forgot the pre-assignment were given the theme “metamorphosis” and were free to interpret the theme in comic form.

After an excellent meal (thanks, Tiina K.!), it was time for the annual meeting. It went well, even as a hybrid event. We managed to assemble the board, and Satu Kankaanpää will continue as chair. At the organizational meeting held later, we assigned roles to the board members and additional assistant roles as well. The roles are as follows:
Vice Chair: Jussi Rinta-Hoiska. Starting from autumn he will also be in a new role, an event organizer!
Secretary: Silja Ruonala (assistant Mara Harjunmaa)
Membership Officer: Lumo Kumpulainen (assistant Aki Pirkola)
Treasurer: Aki Pirkola (assistant Silja Ruonala)
Communications Officer: Mara Harjunmaa (assistant Lumo Kumpulainen)
